MAFEX, Spanish Railway Association, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting exports of their members. In order to achieve its objectives, the association carries out a number of different promotional activities: trade delegations, group participation in major international trade fairs, organization of foreign buyer delegations to Spain, market studies and analysis, channelling of enquiries as well as a variety of advertising activities in trade magazines, mail shots, catalogues, etc.

The Association is currently formed by 71 companies. All of them are clearly export-oriented, developing their activities in the manufacturing of products and rendering of services for rail projects: rolling stock, track equipment, telecommunications, signalling, engineering, consulting, building, maintenance, interior design, etc. The total turnover of MAFEX company members corresponded to activity within the railway sector in 2012 exceeded 4.300 million euros and the railway exports were valued in 2,116 million. Regarding the number of employees, MAFEX member companies employed more than 20.000 people that work exclusively for the railway industry. According to official figures from 2012, the exporting activities of MAFEX member companies represented 85% of the total exports in the sector.
